The first class our homework was list 3 people who we thought were good public speakers. SIMPLE! I should of known better! Now this month we have to give a 5 min speech on whatever we want. I am speaking on why one should be positive (Health benifits and all). Only bummer is that I have this speech all wrote out and with all the practice ive done the longest I gave the speech was 3:20. So sorry dearest husband: Looks like ill be cramming and practicing ~yet again~ tonight. Im really up for the challenge. I took this class in high school and in my mind : I got this!: Lets hope I do. I know my audience and theres only women. My husband will be in the other class *creative teaching* and says hes gonna come in and watch me speak. Im going to volunteer to go first to get it done and over with and hopefully he doesnt have time to leave his class.
Tips for Public Speaking:
1. Watch the Masters: If you've got a speech or presentation in your future, start looking for what makes successful public speakers so successful. Note their styles and habits and keep them in mind as good examples
2. Fix up, Look Sharp:
If you're in a position where public speaking is required, let's hope you've already got a handle on the importance of personal grooming. If not, take heed: The better you look, the more ready and professional you'll feel. A lot of people are going to be looking at you -- make sure you look your best.
3.Hello Room, Nice to Meet You: If at all possible, check the specs of the room where you'll be speaking. Is it football stadium big or conference room big? What about the sound system? If you'll be using a microphone, it's a good idea to test it out beforehand. The more familiar you are with your environment, the more comfortable you'll be at the podium.
4. Know Your Material: Winging it is not a good idea when you've got a speech to make. While going with the flow and being flexible is smart, trusting yourself to be brilliant without any preparation is something even the pros don't attempt. Do your research. Know your topic and what you're going to say about it and how you'd like to say it. The more you know, the more confident you'll be up there.
5. Visualize Yourself Fabulous (I CAN DO THIS!): Negative thinking will get you nowhere but down in the dumps. If you believe that you'll be great, you will be. If you think you're going to fail, you probably will. It's as simple as that
In other news: its hot!!! as of this moment our air conditioner is not working and its yet another 100+ degree day. Im happy to know my electric bill will be lower but my water bill will be high due to all the cold showers & baths I have been taking. Summer was always my favorite season. Im thinking its just because Ive always been close to a pool.
